UCL: It’s down to errors – Xavi as Barcelona head towards Europa League after Inter draw

Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandez, has blamed their 3-3 draw with Inter Milan on “our own errors”.

Xavi also claimed the Champions League has been cruel to his team this season as they face being eliminated in the group stages for the second year running.

Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring, but goals from Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez gave the Serie A side the lead.

Robert Lewandowski equalized for Barca, only for Robin Gosens to restore Inter’s lead.

Lewandowski levelled again in stoppage time, but it was too late for Xavi’s side.

Barca will drop into Europa League if Inter take three points from their last two fixtures against Viktoria Plzen and Bayern Munich.

“The Champions League is being cruel to us this season.

“Against Bayern Munich, we were not clinical enough. There were other circumstances in Milan last week, but there is no need to talk about [those refereeing decisions], and then tonight it is down to defensive mistakes.

“Our chances of going through are very remote now. We won’t lose hope, but the situation is really difficult. We no longer depend on ourselves and it is down to our own errors,” Xavi said.
