Champions League: Two clubs confirm Round of 16 spots after Tuesday’s matches

Manchester City and Real Madrid have confirmed their places in this season’s Champions League Round of 16 following Tuesday’s matches.

Both clubs qualified despite failing to win their respective games.

City were reduced to 10 men in the first half against FC Copenhagen after Sergio Gomez was sent off for a last-man foul.

Before then, Riyad Mahrez had missed a penalty. The match ended 0-0 in Denmark.

Pep Guardiola’s men have 10 points, three more than Borussia Dortmund, who are in second place.

Madrid scored a late equalizer to draw 1-1 against Shakhtar Donetsk later in the day.

The LaLiga champions now have 10 points after four matches, four more than second-placed RB Leipzig.
