Souness gives opinion on West Ham’s disallowed goal against Chelsea

Former Liverpool star, Graeme Souness has said that the video assistant referee got it correct by disallowing West Ham’s equaliser against Chelsea in the London derby on Saturday.

The decision has sparked widespread condemnation across the football community and has created a wider debate on the technology and, more specifically, its application.

But Souness believes that Jarrod Bowen endangered Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy in the build-up to the goal, and the VAR was right to call the attention of the centre referee to the incident.

Many pundits and footballers believe that David Moyes and his West Ham side were robbed of a late equaliser against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

VAR deemed that Chelsea’s struggling goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, had been fouled in the build-up to Maxwell Cornet’s goal, but replays proved otherwise.

“First of all, Jarrod Bowen stumbles prior to going for the ball,” the Liverpool legend told talkSPORT.

“Bowen’s right foot is showing 6 studs and that is endangering Mendy.”
