Paul Scholes names only indispensable player in Man United squad after latest win

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has described Lisandro Martinez as the only player who should always make the team list in every game.

He said the Argentine has already rendered himself an indispensable member of the United new-look team.

The Red Devils moved to within three points of the Premier League summit on Sunday following their 3-1 success over Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Central to keeping the Gunners at bay was Martinez, the former Ajax star, who was criticised for his height when he first arrived this summer, from the Netherlands.

Martinez gave his critics yet more food for thought on Sunday. Pairing in the central defence with former Real Madrid man, Raphael Varane, the Argentina produced another assured performance.

Martinez was substituted ten minutes to the end of the game and his replacement Harry Maguire was booked almost immediately.

And former Red Devils’ midfielder, Scholes believes it would be a “worry” if Martinez was absent for any lengthy period of time.

“I go back to possession where Mikel Arteta’s saying he’s in control of the game with his interview there. It doesn’t matter,” he said on Premier League Production.

“At United it’s about determination more than anything. You know the talent is there but it’s about getting up to people, stopping people, getting up to people being solid at the back.

“Having that solid back four now is helping them. Martinez coming out of that might be a worry going forward.”
