EPL: Southgate sends message to Man United boss, Ten Hag over struggling Maguire

England national team coach, Gareth Southgate has sent a clear message to Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag over defender, Harry Maguire.

Southgate wants Ten Hag to restore Maguire to the Manchester United team, insisting it would help give England the best chance of ‘winning’ the World Cup.

The England manager put forth the message to Ten Hag after playing Maguire in his XI for the Nations League games against Italy and Germany despite the centre-back being relegated to the bench at Old Trafford.

Maguire has struggled in almost every game he played this season, giving away the penalty which led to Germany’s first goal in the remarkable 3-3 draw at Wembley on Monday.

But despite the Manchester United captain’s poor form, Southgate wants him back in the Red Devils’ first team set up.

“I know everybody says he’s important to me, he’s important to us! It’s us. It’s not me,” Southgate told reporters.

“Why do we pick him? Because he’s one of the players who gives us the best chance of winning [the World Cup].

“So really we should all be wanting a Harry Maguire that’s playing regularly [at Manchester United] and playing with confidence.”
