EPL: Reasons Haaland can give Guardiola first Champions League trophy at Man City

As the UEFA Champions League 2022/23 season enters group stage match-day three in the first week of October, DAILY POST brings you reasons why Manchester City’s hot-in-form striker, Erling Haaland, can give manager, Pep Guardiola, his first Europe top-flight trophy at Etihad.

Guardiola joined Manchester City back in 2016 after leaving Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich.

Despite his successful career at Man City so far, the Spaniard has never won the UEFA Champions League at the Citizens.

Guardiola has won the Premier League title back-to-back in recent seasons and also numerous silverwares, including FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

But Europe’s most prestigious trophy – the Champions League – is missing from Man City’s cabinet.

However, DAILY POST reports two major reasons Haaland could finally give Guardiola his first Champions League at Man City this season:

– Haaland’s goals and current form:

The Norwegian international is arguably the best striker in the world currently. His form for Guardiola’s side has seen him break numerous records in the past few days.

Just on Saturday, Haaland broke another Premier League record after scoring in Man City’s Premier League 3-0 win over Wolves at Molineux.

The former Borussia Dortmund star has only played seven English top-flight games but has already scored 11 times, making the fastest start in the Premier League’s history.

The 22-year-old had surpassed Sergio Aguero and Mickey Quinn’s records after scoring nine goals in his first five appearances.

The former Red Bull Salzburg star also became the first-ever player to score in all of his first four away matches in the Premier League.

Haaland is currently the highest goal scorer in the Premier League so far, with eleven goals and also the joint-top highest scorer in the Champions League so far this season, alongside Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe. The trio all have three goals in the Champions League after group stage match-day two matches.

His latest goal in the 16th minute against Wolves, marks his 14th of the season in all competitions for Manchester City so far.

– Assists from Kevin De Bruyne and other Man City stars

Haaland has enjoyed a lot of assists from his teammates so far this season.

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, who is currently on top of the chart in terms of assists this season, has contributed immensely to Haaland’s success at Man City.

Haaland will now hope to continue his impressive performance for Manchester City when they host Manchester United in a Premier League derby on October 2.

He joined Manchester City for £51million from Dortmund earlier this summer.
