Crystal Palace defender Ward: Man Utd will get their aura back

Crystal Palace veteran Joel Ward has spoken about the present situation at Manchester United.

The long-serving Palace star spoke about United losing some of the aura that had existed around the team during the time of Sir Alex Ferguson.

While Ward acknowledged that United are still a huge team, he admits they are not as formidable for opposition teams as they were in the past.

He told the Daily Mail: "United have gone through - and are still in - a period where they are developing and changing and transitioning and there is a lot of work for them to do to get back to where they want to be, not just on the pitch but off the pitch."

He added: "I think there was a period of time [when they did have an aura], yes. I think they are searching for that again. They are still one of the biggest clubs in the world. They will, eventually, get back to the force they want to be.

"But, like anything, that takes time. There has been a lot of change in the past seven, eight years at the club. There has been a lot of ups and downs. As a football fan, you want to see them back competing where they should be."
