England midfielder leaves Chelsea after Boehly terminates his contract

Ross Barkley has left Chelsea by mutual consent, the club confirmed on Monday.

The midfielder, who made 100 appearances for the Blues after joining from Everton in 2018, became a free agent.

The 28-year-old who cost Chelsea £15m, has failed to make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge, scoring only 12 goals.

Barkley was on loan at Aston Villa last season but he returned to Chelsea last term and only made 14 appearances across all competitions.

With Chelsea looking to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton, The Sun reports that the Blues co-owner, Todd Boehly, has approved for his contract to be terminated in a bid to free up space.

Barkley, who took part in Chelsea’s pre-season tour last month, has a year remaining on his current deal and his reported salary is £200k a week.
