Man Utd to make De Jong highest-paid player, pay off £17m Barcelona wages

Manchester United will make a final attempt to tempt Frenkie de Jong away from Barcelona with an eye-watering offer.

Red Devils boss, Erik ten Hag has instructed the club to pull out every possible stop to secure his top summer transfer target.

United are willing to make De Jong their highest paid player by matching his current £450,000-a-week salary.

They are also willing to pay off the £17million that Barcelona owe De Jong in deferred wages, according to Sport.

It is understood Manchester United’s transfer chiefs will fix a meeting with De Jong’s agent, wh Barcelona return from their pre-season tour of America.

A reported deal worth £74million has already been agreed with Barcelona but De Jong is currently unwilling to swap La Liga for Premier League football.
