Forest close on fourth signing after agreeing Niakhate deal

Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal to sign Mainz defender Moussa Niakhate.

The fee is understood to be worth €15m including add ons.

Niakhate is expected to have a medical today before flying out to Alicante to join the rest of the squad for the pre-season tour.

Niakhate was Forest’s number one target in the central defensive position. The deal had looked off last week when the clubs couldn’t come to an agreement on price.

Once completed, he will become Forest’s fourth signing of the summer.

Forest broke their transfer record by signing Taiwo Awoniyi for £17.5m from Union Berlin. Defender Giulian Biancone has joined from Troyes while keeper Dean Henderson has made the move from Manchester United on a season long loan.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has promised manager Steve Cooper he will be given the resources to build a team capable of competing in the Premier League.
