UEL final: He’s kind of player I want in my team – Owen hails Super Eagles star

Former Manchester United midfielder has hailed Nigeria international, Calvin Bassey, describing his performance against Frankfurt in the Europa League final against Rangers on Wednesday night as ‘astonishing’.

Bassey and his Rangers teammates were defeated on penalty shootout by the German side after 120 minutes of football ended 1-1.

Aaron Ramsey missed the decisive spot kick that handed the trophy to the Bundesliga side in Sevilla.

Another Nigeria international, Joe Aribo put Rangers ahead in the second-half and the Scottish side perhaps had the better of the chances to seal the win before the penalty shoot-out.

Former England midfielder, Hargreaves hailed the performance of the 29-year-old, insisting he is the sort of player any teammate, manager or supporter would want in their team.

“Calvin Bassey, my word, what a performance,” Hargreaves told BT Sport.

“That was astonishing, the energy and effort. Everything about his game was fantastic.

“Anyone watching that will be thinking: ‘That’s the kind of player I want in my team”.

Rangers must now regroup for Saturday’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts.
