Man Utd 'to battle' Man City for River star Fernandez

Manchester United will battle rivals Manchester City for River Plate prospect Enzo Fernandez this summer, according to reports in his native Argentina.

United are one of three clubs interested in the 21-year-old midfielder, with incoming boss Erik ten Hag set to mastermind a considerable overhaul at Old Trafford.

As per South American outlet Clarin, United want Fernandez to be part of that overhaul and could be set to pay the £17m release clause in his River Plate contract.

However, City are thought to be interested too and have already successfully negotiated with River Plate this season for the signing of striker Julian Alvarez.

Real Madrid are also reportedly in the running for Fernandez, who has enjoyed an excellent 2022, scoring eight goals and registering five assists from the centre of midfield.
