EPL: You’re not doing Man United a favour – Sherwood slams Portuguese star

Former Aston Villa manager, Tim Sherwood has heavily criticised Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, claiming the Portuguese has taken his place at the club for granted.

The Portugal international has managed 10 goals and 14 assists in all competitions for Manchester United this season.

Fernandes, 27, joined the Red Devils in January 2020 and was hailed by many as one of the best winter transfer signings for the club, with the way he hit the ground running immediately.

Manchester United have announced that Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag will be taking over at Old Trafford at the end of the season, with many first team players expected to leave the club and Fernandes is one of the few players who have been backed to retain their places at the Theatre of Dreams.

But speaking on SuperSportTV after Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Brentford, with Ferdinand scoring the opening goal, Sherwood said, “[No] running back, just play when you get the ball and it suited players like him[Fernandes].

“I was disappointed in his season.

“It looked to me like he thinks he’s doing Manchester United a favour by playing for them. He ain’t that good.

“He’s talking about [Anthony] Elanga improving and developing, but he needs to realize that he’s still got a big developing curve.

“There are so many better players who have worn that shirt before him, he’s not doing them a favour by playing for them.”
