EPL: Ten Hag backs Man United top transfer target, Timber to become captain

Manchester United incoming manager, Erik ten Hag has backed his transfer target for Manchester United, Jurrien Timber, to become a future captain.

Ten Hag will be in attendance on Sunday when Manchester United take Crystal Palace in London for the final game of the season.

As many as 10 players are set to leave Old Trafford this summer and ten Hag is believed to have held extensive talks with the club over transfer targets.

Most of the players United are linked with at the moment are Ten Hag’s former stars at Ajax and Timber is said to be top of that list.

The 20-year-old Dutchman has been a rock at the back for Ajax, helping win the league this season.

And ten Hag sees the youngster is destined to wear the captain’s armband for whichever side he plays for.

“He is another great leader that was trained at Ajax,” he told BBC of Timber.

“Besides his football skills, he has the personality to become a captain.”
