EPL: Pat Nevin warns Chelsea new owner, Boehly, reveals first thing he must do

Chelsea legend, Pat Nevin has warned the club’s new owner, Todd Boehly, that he will have a massive job on their hands at Stamford Bridge.

Nevin also advised Boehly that he must first need to concentrate on keeping the main core of the Blues players at the club and build on it.

Chelsea over the weekend confirmed that Boehly had struck a £4.25billion deal to buy the West London club from Roman Abramovich.

But Nevin believes Boehly and his consortium will have to tie down key players to new contracts upon their arrival.

Recall that Antonio Rudiger has reportedly agreed to terms with Real Madrid, while Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso have been linked with moves to Barcelona.

“There are a lot of things which will need to be ticked off when this new owner comes in. It’s like the Newcastle takeover. There are a lot of T’s to cross and I’s to dot. It’s a lot of work in a short space of time,” Nevin, who played for Chelsea between 1983 and 1988, told Football Insider.

He continued: “I think there are a lot of players who need to be tied down. They want to know where their future lies. The uncertainty has not helped them. The likes of Mason Mount will want stability and a long-term future at a club he clearly loves.

“That can only take place when everything is signed off. They need to concentrate on keeping the main core of players at the club and build on that.”
