De Bruyne names club that must win trophy this year

Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne has said the Premier League champions must win the Champions League this year, as it would “change the perspective” of the club.

City travel to Spain to face Real Madrid on Wednesday for a place in the final.

It would represent a chance for the Citizens to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won many domestic titles already, but De Bruyne said the Champions League would take the club to another level.

“I think it would change the perspective from outside. The fact we’ve been fighting for numerous years and getting to the latter stages means we’ve been doing really well

It’s a cup competition and the quality is very high so it is very difficult to win, but in the end if you look back at the way we performed and I have performed over seven years we have done really well.

“We have not won it but winning it would change that little narrative,” De Bruyne told a news conference on Tuesday.

City won the first leg 4-3 at the Etihad Stadium and will face Liverpool in Paris if they eliminate Madrid.
