Ancelotti pleased as Real Madrid thrash Levante

Real Madrid thrashed Levante 6-0 on Thursday night at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The hosts took the lead after just nine minutes through an unlikely source, as Ferland Mendy burst forward to slot the ball home.

Karim Benzema, back in the side after being rested against Atletico Madrid, was back amongst the goals, getting on the end of a Vinicius cross at the back post.

The match began to resemble a training match by the half-hour mark, as Madrid walked in their third goal. Rodrygo combined with Luka Modric before the youngster tapped in from close range.

Modric was again the provider on the stroke of half-time, this time playing in Vinicius who slotted home smartly from an angle.

The second half was all about Vinicius as the forward scored twice more to complete his hat-trick - his first for Real Madrid. On 67 minutes, he had Benzema to thank after the Frenchman danced around the goalkeeper before passing to him almost on the goal-line to tap home.

And the final blow came on 83 minutes as he benefitted from a Luka Jovic pass before tucking away the finish with his left foot.

The win serves as a confidence boost for Real Madrid who have already been crowned champions, but sadly for Levante, their defeat means they are relegated from LaLiga Santander.

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti later said: "We're in good shape, our self-esteem has really grown. We have the challenge of having reached the end of the season with LaLigaalready won. We know there's a way to go yet. We have to maintain the intensity and commitment. The team has shown very positive signs because they worked very hard out on the pitch".
