UCL: Phil Foden equals Rooney’s record as Man City defeat Real Madrid

Manchester City star, Phil Foden, on Tuesday night, equaled Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney’s Champions League goal record after his team defeated Real Madrid 4-3 in the semi-final first-leg tie at Etihad Stadium.

Man City defeated Real Madrid, thanks to goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Foden and Bernardo Silva.

Karim Benzema and Vini Jr. did score for Real Madrid.

However, Foden’s goal for Man City against Real Madrid means no English player has scored more goals in the Champions League while at the age of 21 or younger than Foden.

The 21-year-old has now leveled with Rooney, taking his tally to 9 goals in the competition, according to OptaJoe.

Meanwhile, Foden will hope to continue his impressive display for Pep Guardiola’s side when they face Real Madrid in the return leg at Santiago Bernabeu next month.
