Spurs added to list of potential Johnstone suitors

Tottenham are said to be "very hopeful" that they will beat off competition to sign West Brom and England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in the summer, according to reports in the Daily Express.

The 29-year-old has opted against extending his stay at The Hawthorns beyond this summer and has attracted attention from top six clubs, including former employers Manchester United.

It appears as though he has played his final game for the Baggies, too, with boss Steve Bruce addressing the situation after David Button replaced him between the sticks for Friday's 2-1 win over Blackpool.

"What will make the headlines will be the goalkeeping situation," he said.

"Sam's been a great servant to this club but we have to accept that he's decided not to sign his contract and we wish him the best of luck."

Johnstone has made over 160 league appearances for the Baggies since leaving Old Trafford in 2018.
