Fernandes set to sign new Man Utd contract

Bruno Fernandes is close to signing a new five-year contract with Manchester United.

The Portugal international joined United from Sporting CP in January 2020, making a stunning impact during his first half-season in England. He remains a crucial part of the Red Devils' starting XI.

90min understands talks began at the start of the year and are now coming towards a conclusion.

Former executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and old manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promised Fernandes a new and improved contract in the summer and United have stuck to their word, despite the departures of the aforementioned duo.

The attacking midfielder is currently on £250,000 a week but over the course of this new deal that sum will go beyond £300,000 a week.

Fernandes' form this season has arguably dropped this season but he has still contributed nine goals and 14 assists in all competitions. It will, however, be another trophy-less campaign at Old Trafford ahead of another summer of upheaval.

The defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League ended any hopes of silverware for the current campaign and their sole focus is now on securing fourth place in the Premier League to qualify for Europe's elite club competition.
