2022 World Cup playoffs: Results of Thursday’s matches

Some 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs took place around Europe.

Italy will not be at Qatar later this year, missing out on the finals again, after losing 1-0 at home to North Macedonia in their playoff semi-final.

Aleksandar Trajkovski scored a late winner, as the visitors pulled off a shock result.

North Macedonia will now face Portugal in the playoff final on Tuesday for a place at the World Cup.

Portugal beat Turkey 3-1 in their match. Otavio and Diogo Jota put the hosts ahead, before Burak Yilmaz pulled one back in the 65th minute.

Yilmaz missed a chance to level the game with five minutes left, as he blazed his penalty kick over.

Substitute Matheus Nunes made sure of the result in added time, with a third goal from a counter-attack.

Sweden substitute, Robin Quaison’s second-half goal claimed a 1-0 win over the Czech Republic and set up a clash away to Poland.
