2022 World Cup: Nigeria has done well – Ghana ex-star, Paintsil gives credit to Super Eagles

Former Ghana international, John Paintsil has given credit to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for coping well under pressure at the Baba Yara stadium against the Black Stars.

The Super Eagles held their host, Black Stars to a 0-0 draw in Friday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff first leg fixture.

Austine Eguavoen’s men were unlucky not to beat Ghana after missing some good chances during the encounter despite playing in front of vociferous home fans.

Reacting after the match, Paintsil said on Super Sports: “Nigeria have done well in terms of coping with the pressure and they really did play, their calmness was very good,” Paintsil said on Super Sports.

“When you play away, especially against Ghana you are expected to play long balls but when the Eagles get the ball they always try to build from the back.

“They took the game to Ghana and I must say credit to the Nigerians.”

Nigeria will host Ghana on Tuesday in the reverse fixture at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, on Tuesday.

The winner over the two legs will qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
