Manchester United fans have long been starved of scintillating football at Old Trafford, but on Friday night supporters were unable to fill their bellies at half time owing to a 'technical error' at the stadium.
As the half time interval approached, a message over the PA system announced that supporters could not purchase food or drink inside the stadium as a result of a 'technical error'.
The message was greeted with lengthy groans by the United masses and chants of 'we want Glazers out', with supporters needing little excuse to blast their much-maligned owners.
Nine thousand Middlesbrough fans also made the journey to Old Trafford on Friday night and were also less than impressed by the announcement.
Man United legend Gary Neville suggested that any food and drink that was unable to be sold should be 'given away for free' in response to the bizarre announcement.
Popular Twitter page @FootyScran, which shares images of food sold at football grounds across the world, posted an image of an empty polyester dish with the caption: 'Half time scran at Manchester United'.
