You must not let him leave – Ashley Cole, Redknapp warns Chelsea over ‘best player’

Chelsea legend, Ashley Cole and former Liverpool star, Jamie Redknapp have told the Blues not to allow Antonio Rudiger to leave Stamford Bridge.

Cole said he hopes the club does everything to keep the Germany international who has been Chelsea’s best player so far this season, adding that there are not many centre backs like him in the world at the moment.

Rudger’s current deal runs out at the end of the 2021/22 campaign and the 28-year-old is free to speak to rival European clubs over a possible move.

Top European clubs such as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Manchester United are all interested in signing the defender on free transfer.

However, Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel is hopeful Rudiger will commit his long-term future to Chelsea.

“I played with him at Roma. Great personality, great attitude in training, always pushing to want to be the best,” Cole told Sky Sports

“He’s been integral in this Chelsea team in the way they play.

“I hope he stays because I think he’s been brilliant, especially for the younger players. The younger players always come back to us and always mention how good he is with them.

“You need to keep players like him in and around the dressing room.”

Redknapp added, “I’m sure they are [doing everything to keep him].

“There are not many like him in world football. A lot of centre-backs now, they’re nice. Not many of them are going to be aggressive or kick you, be in for a fight every time you play against them.

“When I look at Rudiger that’s what he brings, he’s a one-off to that extent. If you’re Chelsea you are doing everything.”
