You didn’t do your job – Ian Wright slams Man United star over Wolves’ goal

Arsenal legend Ian Wright singled out Scott McTominay for blames for the role the midfielder played in Wolves’ goal against Manchester United on Monday.

Manchester United were beaten for the first time since the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager thanks to Joao Moutinho’s late strike.

Wright blamed the Scot for failing to close down Moutinho with the Portuguese given time to find the back of the net.

“We can nitpick and say where the header from Phil Jones should have gone but at the same time you have got to be more aware of where you, the holding midfielder are going in defensively to try and stop him [Moutinho],” said Wright, according to Metro.

“Look how much time he [Moutinho] has got – McTominay is the one who is closest to try and get to him. If he is in the team, he’s got to be in the team to do that job!

“He’s not in the team to do anything progressive because he hasn’t done anything progressive. If he’s going to be that defensive holding midfielder then you do that job. He didn’t do it.”

With the defeat, which was accompanied by a lacklustre performance, United fell further behind in their bid to finish top four this season.

Ralf Rangnick’s side now trail fourth-placed Arsenal by four points, though they have a game in hand on the Gunners.
