Transfer: Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne signs for new club

Napoli captain, Lorenzo Insigne has signed a four-year deal with MLS side Toronto FC on a free transfer.

He will leave the Italian side this summer after completing the deal.

Toronto FC President, Bill Manning described the deal as historic, describing the Italian as a world class attacker.

“This is a historic and exciting day for our club,” said Toronto FC President Bill Manning.

“Lorenzo is a world-class attacking player in the prime of his career.

“Lorenzo has the talent to change games. He plays the game with joy and passion, and our fans and supporters are going to love watching him as a member of our team.”

Insigne, the 36-year-old Napoli youth team graduate, helped Italy win Euro 2020 last summer, and will now leave the Serie A giants for the first time since his professional career.

He has made 416 appearances and scored 114 goals in all competitions for Napoli, and has lifted the Coppa Italia twice.
