Rio Ferdinand names Arsenal most talented youth star

Manchester Rio Ferdinand claims Arsenal wonder kid Charlie Patino would be better than all the stars that have come out from the club’s youth team.

He described the youngster as a ‘joke’ and the best, adding that the midfielder can reach the very top of the game if he continues his development with Arsenal.

Patino, 18, netted his first goal for Arsenal on his first-team debut against Sunderland in the FA Cup earlier last month.

Many Arsenal fans had been calling for Mikel Arteta to give the youngster a chance just like the club gave the likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka.

Ferdinand believes Patino could be the ‘best’ to come out of the Hale End academy.

“Go on YouTube and watch his clips. It’s a joke what you see, the talent he’s got,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“I’ve spoken to people at Arsenal and what they say about him in terms of this kid, talent-wise, could potentially be the best of the lot that’s come out in recent years. It’s a huge bar, but this kid has the talent and the big, big part of him is his mentality.

“When you talk to anybody who knows him, mentally, he doesn’t get carried away, doesn’t get too low, doesn’t get too high, very balanced kid, but has all the fundamentals in his game to really go to the top of the tree.

“This kid is the next. I just feel, when you watch him, there’s a beautiful way he plays, the balance, the rhythm, the fans will enjoy watching him.”

Arsenal is currently sixth in the Premier League table despite their 2-1 defeat in the hands of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Saturday.
