North London Derby could be called off – Arteta

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said that there is a “possibility” that their Premier League clash against Tottenham on Sunday could be called off.

The Gunners are left with only 12 fit outfield players due to injury to COVID-19.

They lost Martin Odegaard to a positive COVID test before their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Liverpool. Cedric Soares and Bukayo Saka also limped off with injuries during the game.

A red card for Granit Xhaka means he is automatically out of the North London Derby.

According to Premier League rules, teams must fulfil fixtures if they have 14 players – 13 outfield and a goalkeeper – available to play.

“[Postponement] is a possibility in every game, from our side and the opponents’ side with the issues everyone is having and it is happening every week.

“But we try to prepare the game thinking we will play.

“We came here and we were missing nine or 10 players. We don’t know what to expect the next day so we cannot be looking at that,” Arteta said.
