Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye reacts to Gernot Rohr’s sacking

Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has reacted to the sacking of Gernot Rohr as the Nigerian national team coach.

The Super Eagles handler was dismissed from the position on Sunday due to poor performances by the team and was replaced by Austin Eguavoen.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), President, Amaju Pinnick announced the sacking of Rohr, saying it was to prevent disaster in the team ahead of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON.

However, Okoye, via his verified Twitter account on Monday, hailed the Franco-German coach, saying he has “nothing but praise and gratitude” for him.

“You turned my young football career around, helped me and gave this career a big boost! You let me do what I always dreamed of, playing for my fatherland Nigeria. Thank you for almost three amazing years, your support and your trust. I’m wishing you all the best, Coach Rohr,” the 22-year-old wrote.

Okoye made his international debut under Rohr in a friendly against Brazil in November 2019.

He has gone on to make another 15 international caps while securing himself the position of the first-choice goalkeeper.
