Prove me wrong – Roy Keane tells De Gea, Harry Maguire

Former Manchester United captain, Roy Keane has claimed he would tell David De Gea and Harry Maguire to prove him wrong if he ever becomes the club’s manager.

Keane has been heavily critical of the goalkeeper and the central defender during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign.

The former United star went as far as to suggest he would not have let both players back on the team bus following their poor performances against Tottenham last year.

And speaking on Sky, former Manchester City defender, Micah Richards raised the prospect of Keane returning to United as a manager.

And Keane replied, “Why would that be a joke?

“Have you ever been in a dressing room with me as a player? Have you ever been in a dressing room with me when I’ve been a manager? So why jump to these conclusions?

“A manager is meant to challenge people, you’re meant to fall out with people.

“Managers do that, you can’t fall out with everyone, obviously not, I’ve managed in the Premier League, I have to fight my corner, nobody else is!’

Richards then said to Keane: “No, no. The reason why it was funny was because of De Gea and Maguire, that was it.”

Keane then revealed how he would handle the situation if he ever got the job at United.

“So the first thing, you’d walk into the club, pull them two [and say] ‘I’ve been really critical… prove me wrong’,” said Keane.

“And that’s the end of the conversation. If they get upset, no problem, players are upset all the time.

“And it’s not about the players liking the manager. The most important thing is, you hope, that the players respect the manager.”
