Cesar Azpilicueta’s new club revealed as Chelsea captain set to leave Stamford Bridge

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta’s possible new club has been revealed as the defender is set to leave Stamford Bridge.

Azpilicueta’s current contract with Chelsea will expire at the end of the season.

Despite his status as Chelsea skipper, Azpilicueta has seen his contract at the west London club run down to its final six months.

Chelsea are currently preoccupied with sorting out the contract situations of Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen.

That has left Azpilicueta at risk of Chelsea, with the two parties currently a distance apart in negotiations.

According to The Athletic, Azpilicueta is hoping to be offered the security of a multi-year contract by Chelsea, but such an offer would go against the Blues’ traditional contract structure, with the Premier League giants tending to only offer 12-month extensions to players in their 30s.

The report added that one team that is heavily interested in signing Azpilicueta is Barcelona.

Barcelona manager, Xavi, played with Azpilicueta in the Spanish national team and is said to be a ‘huge admirer’ of the Chelsea centre-back.

Azpilicueta doesn’t have an agent and so is handling negotiations himself, alongside a lawyer and they may soon have a decision to make.

The 32-year-old is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club from the start of the January window.
