Why Giorgio Chiellini is better than Harry Maguire, John Stones – Cannavaro

Italy legend Fabio Cannavaro has highlighted the major problem with Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire.

According to Cannavaro, Harry Maguire and John Stones of Manchester City “lack a nasty streak”, which his former Italian teammate, Giorgio Chiellini possesses.

Maguire has been criticised for poor outings with Manchester United following his return from three weeks injury lay-off.

The 28-year-old has been slammed for several errors that contributed to the Red Devils poor run.

Cannavaro admitted that Maguire and Stones are England’s best two centre-backs at the moment but added that both players lack the power that someone like his Italian compatriot Giorgio Chiellini possesses.

“Stones and Maguire have shown interesting things in recent years. They can both play football, defend and fear no one,” he told The Sun.

“They are good individually and with the rest of the backline. They are points of reference for Manchester City and Man United — and undoubtedly the two best English defenders.

“When the going gets tough, they take responsibility and are not afraid of trying new things.

“But Chiellini still embodies the spirit of the Italian defender and that level of concentration needed to stop a striker in a difficult moment.

“Maguire and Stones play a totally different type of football and may lack a nasty streak at times, which Giorgio has.”
