What I think about Ralf Rangnick’s appointment as Man United manager – Rooney

Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney has given his verdict on the club’s appointment of Ralf Rangnick as the interim boss at Old Trafford.

Rooney, United’s all-time highest goal scorer, believes the German, seen by many as the godfather of modern football, has a ‘tough’ job on his hands at Manchester United.

The former England international believes the German will bring ‘stability’ to the squad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last Sunday following series of disappointing results and United have moved to appoint Rangnick as an interim manager for the remainder of the season.

Rangnick who is said to have vast experience in the Bundesliga with Schalke, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, was also offered a two-year consultancy role at Old Trafford which he will begin next summer.

But Rooney believes United’s decision to bring in Rangnick was the ‘right appointment’.

“I think he’s obviously very highly respected in the game, and I think he’s got a tough job to come in [to],” Rooney said, according to Metro.

“I don’t mean in terms of his ability, in terms of to come in for six months and stamp his way of playing and his pressing if you like, and how he likes to work.

“But he’s very experienced, I’m sure he’ll adapt to the players he’s got and bring some stability back to the team, but also with the view of looking to trying to win trophies.

‘That Manchester United team are more than capable of winning trophies this season and I think they’ve made the right appointment to give themselves the best chance.’
