Mark Lawrenson predicts result of Man Utd vs Man City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, other games

Former Liverpool player, Mark Lawrenson, has predicted some of the English Premier League, EPL, games that will be played this weekend.

Manchester United will host Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, while Chelsea will tackle Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham will clash with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, while West Ham United will host Liverpool and Arsenal will take on Watford at Emirates Stadium.

Providing his predictions, Lawrenson told BBC Sport, “United’s win over Tottenham last weekend was a good result, but if you actually watched the game, Spurs were absolutely hopeless. Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Atalanta was a better gauge of where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are at as a team.

“It was United’s ‘big three’, as I call them, of Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes, who did for Tottenham and scored in the Champions League too, but they shipped some bad goals in Italy and I can’t see them keeping City quiet. United 1, City 2.”

Commenting on the Chelsea vs Burnley game, Lawrenson said, “Burnley got a very good win against Brentford last week. Going to Stamford Bridge is a very different proposition.

“This game could go a similar way, with the Blues having to wait for a breakthrough. Chelsea 2, Burnley 0.”

On the Arsenal vs Watford fixture, Lawrenson said, “It seems Mikel Arteta’s side have found the consistency they’ve needed for a long time, while Watford remains hugely up and down under Claudio Ranieri. Good luck to anyone predicting how they will do! Arsenal 2, Watford 0.”

Speaking on the Everton vs Tottenham match, Lawrenson said, “Everton are simply not as good going forward while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out injured, but on top of that, they have got some real issues at the back.

Antonio Conte is only just starting to get his teeth into turning this Tottenham team around, but I think they will be right at it here, as they try to impress their new manager.

We will probably see Spurs playing with wing-backs, operating high up the pitch, but what I am really waiting to see is whether he can get a song out of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min upfront. Everton 1, Tottenham 2.”

Also, on the West Ham vs Liverpool tie, Lawrenson said, “I have got a bit of a thing going with West Ham fans now where I always tip them to lose or draw, and then they win – so all those Hammers will be happy to see what I am going for here.

“There will be a great atmosphere at London Stadium because West Ham are doing so well and one of the big teams are in town.

“I think Liverpool will ruin the party, though. Jurgen Klopp’s side were very impressive against Atletico Madrid in midweek and, in terms of keeping the Hammers out, van Dijk and Joel Matip will have the answers Klopp needs against Michail Antonio West Ham 1, Liverpool 2.”
