Former Aston Villa captain Gabby Agbonlahor believes new manager Steven Gerrard needs to target a top ten finish this season.
Gerrard takes over with Villa languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table.
Villa have not finished in the top-half of the English top flight for over a decade.
"I think he just needs to go in there, get these players playing, get the new signings firing, and just try and finish the season in the top 10," Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT.
"I think Aston Villa fans would take top 10 at the moment, and then next season push on again.
"Maybe he'll be able to bring in a couple of players, maybe change a couple of players, probably get rid of a few players, and start looking to get Villa into that top six. That's what the owners want.
"They're bringing Gerrard in, that will be the plan over the next two or three years. Challenging to get into European places."
