Ballon d’Or: Thierry Henry snubs Messi, names player that should win award

Former Barcelona striker, Thierry Henry, has snubbed his former teammate, Lionel Messi, and backed Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema or Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante to win the Ballon d’Or award this year.

Messi has won the Ballon d’Or six times in the past and was included in the 30-man nominees shortlisted to win the prestigious prize this year.

The Argentine captain will rival Benzema, Kante, Chelsea’s Jorginho, Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, among others.

Speaking on who should win the Ballon d’ Or this year, Henry said in an interview with Le Journal de Dimanche, “Let’s be realistic, I hope it can be him [Karim Benzema] or N’Golo Kante. Robert Lewandowski would have been elected in 2020 if it had not been cancelled.

“We can also talk about Jorginho because he won everything [Champions League and Euro 2020]. And there is Leo [Messi] who finally won the Copa America.”

The winner of the 2021 Ballon d’ Or will be announced on November 29.
