UCL: You let yourself down – Peter Crouch slams Diego Simeone for snubbing Klopp’s handshake

Peter Crouch has blasted Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone for snubbing Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp after their Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Liverpool defeated Atletico 3-2 in the tensed and drama-filled encounter in Spain.

The Reds took the lead at the Wanda Metropolitano, with Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita scoring to give the Premier League side a two-goal lead inside the opening 15 minutes.

But Atleti drew level thanks to a quickfire brace from Antoine Griezmann who was later sent off for a high foot on Roberto Firmino.

Salah scored his second of the night from the spot after Mario Hermoso floored Diogo Jota with a clumsy foul inside the box in the 78th minute.

Crouch, who was on BT Sport monitoring the game, was flabbergasted as Simeone ran straight down the tunnel instead of showing respect for his rival, Klopp with a traditional handshake.

“You’re so caught up in the game that you forget the VAR moments, the penalties, the sendings off, all the goals we had,” Crouch said.

“There was so much drama and not even a handshake at the end of it!

“I’ve got to respect him so much as a manager, Simeone, but I just think during the game, winding the crowd up, winding the players up, I understand it.

“But then not shaking hands at the end, I just think he lets himself down.”
