Ballon d’Or 2021: Messi to be Announced Winner, Clinch record-extending Seventh award

Lionel Messi now wears the colours of Paris Saint-Germain.

The 34-year-old left Barcelona as a free agent this summer after over two decades at the club.

In another month, Messi is expected to win his record-extending seventh Ballon d’Or.

The Argentina captain is the only player to have won the award six times. His eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo has five gongs to his name.

After scoring 33 goals and providing 13 assists in all competitions for Barca last season, Messi is widely expected to win the prize.

Messi boosted his chances by winning the Copa America with his country, after a 1-0 win over Brazil in the final.

With his move to PSG, you can expect that he will continue to win trophies and be in the conversations for next year’s award at this least.

But this year, he will likely share the stage with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

This year, France Football will announce two winners, because the event was cancelled last year due to COVID-19.

Lewandowski led Bayern to victories in Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Champions League with 55 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions.
