Alan Shearer, Ian Wright give verdict on Man Utd’s 3-0 win over Tottenham

Former Premier League stars, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have delivered their verdict on Manchester United’s Premier League 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Man United defeated Tottenham in an away Premier League tie, thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Wright said, “I thought today, Tottenham were perfect for them, although saying that Man United gave them no time at all.

“At no stage, when we watched Tottenham, because of the way Man United worked and how hard they were working, did they make any Tottenham player feel like he had time on the ball, at any stage.

“They get the ball, but not really under control, because Man United’s players are ready, they get into them to win it back. And it just ended up being aimless from Tottenham, which Man United dealt with really easily.

“It was very comfortable for Manchester United.”

On his part, Shearer said: “There are many words we could use. There was no energy, no intensity, it was all very flat.

“I thought they were going to go after Man United, because they would have been low on confidence after what happened last week, but they never did that at all.
“They didn’t have one effort on target, it was all too safe, too many sidewards and backwards passes.

“It was constant. Harry [Kane] is not having a good season at all, and this is one of the reasons why, he is trying to come deep and go out wide, he should be in the middle giving them an option there.

“It was all slow and there was no intensity.

“They just didn’t look like scoring, and it is only Norwich and Leeds who have scored fewer goals than Tottenham so far, and Leeds have played one game fewer.

“Tottenham had more possession than Man United today, but they did nothing with it at all, they were awful.”
