EPL: Herrera hails Tuchel for Rescuing two Chelsea players from Lampard

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Ander Herrera, has given Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, credit for saving the careers of two players in his squad since taking over from former coach, Frank Lampard in January.

The players are Antonio Rudiger and Marcos Alonso.

Rudiger and Alonso had fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge towards the end of Lampard’s reign as manager.

Both players came back into the reckoning after Tuchel replaced Lampard and proceeded to help Chelsea win the Champions League and finish fourth in the Premier League last season.

“I simply thought that this is football, that eight months before, we lost the same final with him [Thomas Tuchel] in the dugout,” Herrera told Marca.

“This showed that this game is a mystery, and no other sports can surprise you as much.

“Chelsea had Frank Lampard and players like Rudiger and Marcos Alonso who were practically not involved. Tuchel arrives and they play and make a big difference.

“Football is unpredictable, and there’s always the chance of a shock. This doesn’t happen in basketball for example, where the same teams always win. That is how I see it.”
