EPL: Alan Shearer disagrees with Solskjaer after Man Utd’s Defeat

Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, has disagreed with Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, following his comment after the Red Devils’ 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League over the weekend.

Aston Villa defeated Man United in the Premier League, thanks to Kortney Hause’s late strike.

But after the match, Solskjaer had said he felt Aston Villa’s goal should have been ruled out for offside, as replays showed striker Ollie Watkins clearly blocking Man United goalkeeper David De Gea as Hause headed the ball into the net.

However, Shearer feels the match officials got the decision right to award Aston Villa’s winning goal against Man United at Old Trafford but understands the controversy around it.

Reacting to the development, Shearer told BBC Match of the Day: “I don’t think it should be called offside, but there is an argument certainly after what happened with Leicester last week.

“It is a great run from Hause, gets his head on it and Ollie Watkins is in front of him [De Gea], is in his line of sight. There is no way he is stopping it though, there is no way he is stopping it.

“Last week, identical with Ndidi. Harvey Barnes is across the goalkeeper but the difference is the official flags for offside. The assistant here didn’t flag. We just want consistency.

“I don’t think either goal should be offside, both goals should be given, but Leicester will look at that and say that is not fair.”

Man United’s next game is against Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
