Everyone involved was wrong – Serie A President on Victor Osimhen’s red card

President of the Italian Serie A, Gabriele Gravina, has reacted to the red card issued to Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen during Napoli’s 2-0 win over Venexia last weekend.

The President said that everyone involved in the incident: Osimhen, Venezia midfielder Daan Heymans and referee Gianluca Aureliano were all wrong.

Italian referee, Aureliano had on match day one flashed Osimhen a straight red card midway through the first half of the clash at the newly-promoted side.

Some pundits suggested that Osimhen should have been awarded a penalty as Heymans tugged his shirt during a corner kick tussle.

Referee reported Osimhen case as a violent conduct and the Nigeria international was slammed with a two-match suspension.

But Gravina is convinced that all the three parties involved were wrong.

“Everyone is wrong, and Osimhen has been wrong first,” the 67-year-old told Corriere Dello Sport via Forzazzurri.

“So I don’t want to judge what our judges are doing right now; they are very careful professionals. Let’s try not to poison the wells from the first day; let’s enjoy this championship.”

Napoli filed a legal processes to have the ban reduced to just the Genoa game so that Osimhen could feature against Juventus on matchday three.
