Former Manchester United striker, Dimitar Berbatov, has said that the club are Premier League title contenders this season after signing Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer.
Berbatov said this ahead of Man United’s Premier League opener with Leeds United this weekend.
Man United, who finished in the second position behind champions Manchester City last season, signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Varane from Real Madrid.
“Man United are in a strong position to challenge for the title, especially after the signings they have made this summer,” Berbatov told Betfair.
“I am very happy that they are bringing in Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. He’s a World Cup and Champions League winner, he has a winning mentality and he has played with the best over the years.
“So, he’s a great signing and I’m looking forward to seeing how he’s going to settle into the team and compliment Harry Maguire.
“Jadon Sancho is already good friends with the England players in United’s squad, which is a great thing to have when you go into a new team. Hopefully, this is going to help him settle quickly.”
