They manage to edge into first place with a squad worth €1.4 billion, just ahead of rivals Manchester City who's squad is worth €1.3 billion.

The variables used to decide a squad's transfer value involves the player's age, their performances, economic value of the club and inflation.

Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe is the player with the highest individual transfer value in the recent report.

The World Cup winner is currently valued at over €251 million which roughly translates to £227.

Frank Lampard's young Chelsea side surprisingly manage to crack the top five despite their inconsistent season.

CIES put the strong increase down to their use of young players this campaign after being hit with a transfer ban by FIFA.

Premier League sides make up half of the top ten with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur coming in sixth and ninth respectively.

But it's Liverpool who stand tall and it's a testament to Jurgen Klopp's managerial ability.

Who do you think has the most valuable squad in world football?
