Former England stars, Rio Ferdinand and Peter Crouch have shared their opinion on Manchester City’s victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola made some strange choices in his starting XI to the Champions League round of 16 first leg tie in Spain.

However, City recorded the all-important victory handing Zinedine Zidane’s men a shock 2-1 defeat.

Gabriel Jesus and Kelvin De Bruyne scored for the visitors to cancel out Isco’s earlier strike.

Raheem Sterling came off the bench and helped turn the tide and lead to the eventual winner for Guardiola’s side.

Ferdinand told BT Sport, “Huge result, going behind in a stadium like this with the experience they [Real Madrid] had and multiple Champions League winners, they came back to win the game and deservedly so.

“We could question Pep for the game plan but it came to fruition, all the players stepped up and performed, the only downer is the Laporte injury. But they fully deserved the win

“They are struggling. It’s not the Real Madrid we’ve seen in recent years, but you’re still playing Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. It was a fantastic result for City.”
