Liverpool Could Be DENIED Premier League Title Over Deadly Virus

The English Premier League have responded after claims that Liverpool could be denied the league title this season if this campaign is brought to an out due to the Coronavirus Outbreak.

The Premier League has had talks about the future of this season amid the widespread of the Coronavirus and are closely monitoring the situation.

However, they are yet to decide what will happen with the league, therefore refusing to rule out that Liverpool might be denied the title.

Liverpool only needs four more games with wins to be crowned Premier League champions for the first time since 1990 after a 22-point gap over rivals Manchester City.

That means if Liverpool and Manchester City win all of their four upcoming matches, Liverpool can officially win be crowned Champions at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday, March 21.

But there is a serious worry the season could be cut short by the outbreak of the Coronavirus also known as COVID-19 by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The UK government could order the cancellation of all sports events for more than two months, which would deny Liverpool the Premier League title.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Liverpool would not necessarily be guaranteed champions if the season was brought to a short end.

The three relegation-threatened clubs could also survive the drop, with no plan in place in the Premier League Handbook to react to such a disaster, while there would be uncertainty around the European competition spots.

The Liverpool Echo contacted the Premier League and were told that the body would consider all options if the season has to be brought to an early end.

It is claimed there are different solutions and that it is still an unclear scenario as things stand.

However, the Premier League’s hierarchy have held discussions as football leagues across Europe begin to react to the deadly virus.

All football leagues are following the advice from the country’s government and the Premier League Board will have to make a decision on the current season if it should be stopped.

The news comes after Serie A announced that five games this weekend, including Juventus vs Inter Milan among others will be played behind closed doors.

Inter's Europa League last-32 second-leg match against Ludogorets on Thursday night was played behind closed doors at the San Siro.

There have now been more than 400 cases of the coronavirus in Italy, with 11 cities under quarantine and 14 people already dead.

Globally, the virus has killed nearly 3,000 people while there have been around 84,000 cases reported across over 40 different countries since the outbreak began in China.

Speaking about the deadly virus on Friday, Liverpool Coach Jurgen Klopp said: "We have take it seriously, but we cannot avoid anything, that’s how it is and in the end it’s not exactly a football problem, it’s a society problem, that we have in common.

“I think everybody’s focused on it at the moment, and hopefully the people in charge can find a medicine for it. Because it's obviously the biggest problem at the moment.

“We don’t have a solution yet, but everybody is working hard on that, and hopefully it will settle."
