Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori has now signed a new contract with the club on a five-year agreement. Tomori had been sent out on loans to Hull City and many other clubs due to lack of playing time but it appears he would now get a chance in the first team.

However, 21-year-old has been given a chance this season to prove his worth under new Coach Frank Lampard with the club not able to sign players in the summer transfer window due to a ban.

Tomori was still far behind in the pecking order for the start of the season, with Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma all ahead of him in the race to start in defence.

He was still far down the pecking order, with Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and David Luiz ahead of him in the queue.

There were strong reports the blues were even ready to send him out yet again on loan to a Premier League rival club.

David Luiz quitting Chelsea for Arsenal in the summer offered Tomori a chance to prove himself at Stamford Bridge and battle for a place in the first team.

He was named as a substitute for Chelsea’s first three Premier League matches including the match against Manchester United before he then made his first Chelsea start in the 2-2 draw Vs Sheffield United.

Ever since the 2-2 draw, Tomori has been an ever present player in Coach Frank Lampard's plans over the past few weeks.

“This is a very proud moment for my and my family,” Tomori said.

“I’ve been at the club for a long time since i was just seven years old so I don’t know much about any other club Tha Chelsea.

“Chelsea has been very good to me, looking after me and helping me develop into the player that I am today.

“It’s a dream come true to finally sign a new long-term five-year contract. I’m very happy that the club have shown some faith in me and I’m excited to prove myself.”
