Two Liverpool Fans Miss Win In Genk After Accidentally Travelling to Gent Instead

0

Two Liverpool supporters were left red-faced last night after accidentally booking tickets to Gent instead of Genk in order to watch their team play.

The duo came to Belgium for the Genk-Liverpool match, but inadvertently became stranded in Gent after getting the two destinations mixed up.

The hapless pair didn't even realize their mistake until 30 minutes before kick-off, after they were spotted by locals wandering the town centre in search of Genk's stadium, clutching their tickets in hand.

They eventually accepted their embarrassing blunder and instead opted to watch the game in a local Irish bar and taking an awkward selfie to commemorate the occasion.

After being tracked down by a local Belgian radio station, the men later revealed that they had both shelled out over £190 each in train fares and match tickets.

However, after catching wind of the two lost fans, local club KAA Gent made an appeal to the men on social media, instead offering them free tickets to watch their Europa League clash against Wolfsburg on Thursday night instead.

The club tweeted "If anybody knows these two or has their contact details, tell 'em they're invited for our game against Wolfsburg tonight.

"We'll give them some lessons on Belgian geography afterwards."

To be fair, the two men were not the first to mistake the two cities. After the Champions League draw at the start of the season, Napoli FC's official Twitter account mistakenly tweeted that they were playing Gent in the group stages, which prompted KAA's own account to playfully respond "Thanks for the invitation Napoli but you probably mean Genk," complete with an upside down smiley emoji.
