The Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to postpone next weekend's clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid amid political unrest.
The RFEF has also proposed that the game be played on Wednesday December 18th.
La Liga, on the other hand, prefer the tie be played on Saturday 7 December because "an event of the Clásico's global media impact" should be held on a weekend, report AS.
Earlier this week, it was reported that La Liga wanted this month's El Clasico to be moved from Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium to Real Madrid's Bernabeu amid political unrest.
Days of protests have taken place in Barcelona after nine Catalan separatist leaders were jailed on Monday.
Ernesto Valverde's side were due to play Los Blancos at home on October 26th but there are concerns that these political protests could have an impact on the game.
It is also believed that a large demonstration is planned on the day of El Clasico, but La Liga want to avoid security being compromised.
They released the following statement on Wednesday as they confirmed the stadium switch request.
"We have requested the competitions committee of the RFEF to meet and change the location of El Clasico to Madrid because of exceptional circumstances beyond our control." said a spokesman from La Liga.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to agree on a new date for the fixture on Monday.
