Former Chelsea winger Wright-Phillips announces his retirement

The ex-England international has called time on his career 20 years after making his debut for Manchester City as a 17-year-old

Former England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has announced his retirement from football at the age of 37.

He has not played professionally since leaving United Soccer League side Phoenix Rising in 2017, but until now had not made a formal comment on whether he still had a future in the game.

But the former Chelsea player, who was one of the signings made during the early years of the Roman Abramovich regime when he left Manchester City for Stamford Bridge back in 2005, has now called time on his career, 20 years after making his debut for City as a 17-year-old.
